BEACHES, world-renowned for their beauty, cleanliness and fine surfing conditions, the beaches are probably the Gold Coast's biggest attraction. 57 kilometres of beach stretches from Rainbow Bay to South Stradbroke Island, with 25 full-time lifeguards patrolling 14 beaches all year round. During summer, there are 35 flagged beaches open with an extra 65 casual lifeguards patrolling from 7.30am until 6.30pm.

And this is not even mentioning the thousands of volunteer lifeguards who operate during warmer months between September and April. In fact, the Gold Coast City Council patrols more beaches than any other local authority in Australia, utilising helicopters, boats, jet skis and watercraft in its rescue operations, making it an ideal destination for families.

Located just 30 minutes drive from the coastal strip, the Hinterland is the Gold Coast's natural "theme park" - along with its famous beaches, of course! The Hinterland contains an amazing 29 national parks and nature reserves, World Heritage-listed national parks, Australia's largest area of subtropical rainforest, one of the world's biggest volcanic caldera (of which Mt Warning is the "core") and 300kms of walking trails.

After a day on the beach, visiting the theme parks or exploring the Hinterland, there's a plethora of night time activities to satisfy everyone - whether you're in the mood to party or just want a romantic evening out.

Popular Surfers nightspots include Melbas on the Park, Titanium Bar, Cocktails and Dreams, The Drink, Shooters Saloon Bar, Hard Rock Cafe and Billy's Beach House, while Orchid Avenue and the beach end of Cavill Avenue offer alfresco cafes and restaurants. If this is not enough head five minutes south to Broadbeach where Conrad Jupiters Casino is open 24 hours offering full Casino facilities, a great live show and casual dining. Take a quick monorail trip across the highway to the Broadbeach Mall, which boasts some of the Gold Coast's best restaurants covering a wide range of international cuisines.
